The underlying mission of CCLAS is to improve and protect the lives of Lakewood's pet companion population. Specifically, by providing financial and volunteer resources, CCLAS aids in the adoption of abandoned animals including, but not limited to, cats and dogs, as well as their well being during their stay at the Lakewood Animal Shelter. Further, through fundraising and adoption events, its newsletter and other programs such as the Spay/Neuter program, CCLAS interacts with the Lakewood community to promote education and advocacy regarding the Shelter and responsible pet ownership.

This organization is organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes.

We are in desperate need of families that can foster moms and kittens. On average we need to foster 30-40 animals each year. These animals may be pregnant cats and dogs, mothers and their litters, or orphaned litters. All are in need of a loving home environment until the babies are born, weaned, and of an adoptable age. Food and supplies are provided. If you have room in your home and heart for these litters, please contact us for an application.

Adoption hours:
Tuesdays and Thursdays 12-6, and Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays 12-4.
Lakewood Animal Shelter, 1699 Metropark Drive, Lakewood 44107

The Pet Adoption Program began in 1985. Funded by the Citizens Committee for a Lakewood Animal Shelter (CCLAS) and the City of Lakewood, the program’s focus is to find good homes for healthy stray animals.

The Pet Adoption Program has three components:

  1. Animal Control Officers pick up stray puppies, dogs, kittens, or cats that are wondering the streets.

They are transported to the animal shelter in the Metroparks where the animals are held for several days waiting for the owner to claim it. If unclaimed, it may be put up for adoption. Some animals are abandoned at the Shelter, some are brought in by citizens after finding the strays in empty buildings, under porches, etc.

  2. All animals are examined upon arrival. If they appear healthy, they are given an initial vaccination and worming medication. Any minor ailments, such as fleas or ear mites, are treated. The animals is then ready for adoption.

  3. If an animal is selected, the necessary paperwork is completed. The adoption fee of $35 helps cover the costs of:
A spay/neuter certificate valued at $75, redeemable at any local veterinarian.
    Collar and identification tag

An Animal Control Officer is on Duty
Monday, Wednesday, Friday:
8:00 am-5:00 pm
Tuesday and Thursday: 8:00 am-9:00 pm

After hour emergencies only: (216) 521-677
